John Evans
A Worthing based potter-artist, John holds a BA (Hons) Ceramics from the University of Westminster (Harrow), is a member of the London Potters, Southern Ceramic Group, Craft Potters Association, and the Sussex Guild. His work with naked raku and ferric fuming techniques has featured in publications such as ‘Ceramic Review’, and recently in the 2011 Larks Publications book of international ceramics ‘500 Raku’. The work is often described using words such as contemporary, contemplative, and intriguing.
“My inspirations are many but, in essence, derive from early cultures and their use of clay without glazes; ‘painting’ with smoke and fumes to combine artistic intent with the random markings of the process. I want the visual experience to be complemented by the tactile nature of the burnished surfaces, often described as ‘just like marble’ and always demanding to be touched.”
